One of the major concerns for any organization is the ability of each member to maintain a positive, constructive working relationship with other individuals. Inevitably conflicts between members within the organization will occur leading to the need for applicable and effective conflict resolution policies. During the development of these policies it is imperative that the organizational leadership takes into account how different individuals will approach conflict resolution and how they will respond to conflict within the organization. The purpose of this paper is to provide organizational leadership a basis to understand how an employee’s early experiences, self-image, and personal perceptions of conflict will affect the way they†¦show more content†¦Influences on an Individual’s Perception of Conflict In research conducted by Simon and Furman (2010), the effect of interparental conflict on adolescents’ romantic relationships was investigated to e xamine the associations between levels of interparental conflict and levels of conflict in the adolescents’ romantic relationships. Increased levels of Conflict by Primary Caretakers The study first focused on the hypothesis that as adolescents perceive and experience more interparental conflict there would be more conflict and less ability to problem solve with more destructive conflict within romantic relationships. Secondly, the study focused on how adolescents’ appraisals of interparental conflict would affect these outcomes. Finally, the study investigated if the effects would differ by gender. The participants were 183 high school seniors with an average age of 17.6 years all who lived in a two-parent home where the parents had been married for at least two years. Included in the sample were 98 girls and 85 boys from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The data was acquired by two sets of questionnaires administered to the students and their romantic partner if applicable. Observations were also conducted of the romantic couples (Simon and Furman, 2010).
